A survey done on selling boats online is the first thing a buyer would look for. When you own a boat, and take perfect and diligent care of it, you may feel it is in a top working condition, passable by any expert. But this fact is not known to people who don’t know you. Even so, there may be numerous conditions your boat may have that you may not be aware of. If you take the help of an expert in assessing your boat, you can have a certified report about the status of your boat. A boat survey is a pre-requisite document for the purpose of insurance.

When it comes to selling your boat, a survey done on your boat is an invaluable credential in your hand to show your buyers. This survey can be arranged to be done by the seller or by the buyer to be aware of the condition of the boat.

Who is a boat surveyor?

A survey is a procedure done by an expert, namely, a marine or boat surveyor, who specializes in your line of boats, to assess and detect any faults or drawbacks, which the owner might have overseen.

A surveyor knows exactly where and how to look and gives a detailed report on your boat about the condition it is presently in. Certain issues are addressed in the code of the surveyor’s inspection which should be taken care of or made aware to the buyer upon sale.

Online boat survey

Online websites offer services to find the best surveyor for your boat. You may go online to find a lot of marine boat surveyors or referrals to inspect your boat, but you must personally verify the surveyor’s legitimacy and his past references in the line of his work. Distant buyers, who are interested in purchasing your boat but may not have access to it, might hire these surveyors to do a thorough inspection on their behalf.

You must inform them if the purpose of your survey is personal sale or for purchase or insurance. There is a difference in facts which are highlighted for each of those purposes. A ‘condition and value survey’ also referred to as C&V is usually used by buyers or by owners for the purpose of insurance. This report also contains the market value estimation of the boat.

There are some survey reports which use abbreviations and touch briefly on certain aspects. This report can be rejected by the insurance purposes. Be sure to ask for a trial format of the report they will be writing for you and check to see if that is what your insurance company is looking for. This is a crucial requirement, if not met, it would just be a waste of time and money.
